Sway Bar Install

Well my links keep popping off so upon further inspection have determined the sway bar is jacked. Anyway got one ordered and will install it this weekend. Anybody got any tips or suggestions on other things to replace while I'm down there? Put new links on today while I had it up on the lift. It doesn't look like it should be too hard but then again who knows right.

If you've already done end links youve done the harder part. I would also replace the bushings while you're in there. It's all pretty easy luckily.

U ordered the whole sway bar? You could have bought just the bushing from Clay at RiffRaff for under $40. Mine was doing the same thing, replaced the bushings and all is good now. Easy job

Yes, many different sizes and not a huge difference between the close sizes. Before ordering bushings you should measure the diameter with a micrometer because using rulers or tape measurements won't get an exact enough measurement.

Yes, there are different sizes from Ford (thickness of the sway bar) and other aftermarket companies. I bought a Hellwig swaybar for my Excursion, and it's been great.

Yea I ordered the whole bar. Mine is twisted from what I can tell. Sounds like an easy swap so should make for a fast Sat.

WOW that must've taken one big hit. Those bars are made to twist and flex like a spring because that's what they function as.

Was the truck ever in a serious accident? I can't envision much else that can damage the sway bar. I've never seen it and I worked in a brake and front end shop for a decade.

I came pretty close bending mine in the snow when my one tire went into a ditch off the road trying to avoid kissing another trucks mirror, had all kinds of grass and mud was caked in the middle of it. Hopefully no rocks were hit but it could have happened and going maybe 20-25 MPH I believe it can and will bend that swaybar if enough force is banged into it...
