2000 Excursion

I have a 2000 Excursion 4X4 that when backing up the unit will stop moving and if I push the gas a little, the truck acts like the parking brake is on. I can drive forward and the tire will hop/chatter when turning. When driving on a dirt road last Wednesday that was load pop from the rear of the truck and that is when all of this started. I trailered the truck home and when backing off the trailer it would lock up, I jack it up and rotated the rear tires forward and that would allow the truck to back up another five feet before locking up again. I had to do this three time to get the truck of the trailer. I pulled rear diff cover off and the gears look good. Has anybody had this problem or tell me what I need to do to fix the truck. I talked to the guys at ITP and they said it was the transfer case causing this problem. Any suggestion? Thanks,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

Are your calipers locked up? Your pins could be dry with no grease.

That is what I thought at first so we jack it up on jack stand and ran it in reverse and forward and while on the jack stands it did not have any problems. Thanks,

sounds to me like its your transfer case perhaps a gear jumped of the shifter fork

Is there a way to check to see if that is the problem? Thanks

Drive around the block a couple of times and then feel your rims to see if any one of them is much hotter than the others. They should not be extremely hot to the touch.
