Ok so the mechanic told me theres a hole in # 2 piston, truck has 200k on it
do I Buy a reman engine, ford wants 7,742.77 for complete reman, includes turbo, hpop pretty much plug and play, just add your access.
Do i rebuild it, and what engine kit do you go with.
Buy another truck? and maybe part out this one.
Im in socal looking for Ideas.
Clay sells the rebuild kits too, Riffraff Diesel: Ford Overhaul Kit
Try looking around on craigslist maybe you can find a deal, I paid $700 for a complete Van motor, Salvage yards possibly too.
well theres alot to consider on something like this, How does it run? How much blow by is there cap blows off = bad / cap vibrates off = normal, it would run pretty bad if it had a hole in it, have you had a compression test? to verify its concern, make sure oil is ok and clean, fuel filter and fuel are good clean air filter ect id look at all this first
I agree with Huck too, reading your other thread, he removed the valve covers and determined there was a hole in #2? Did he perform compression test or did he remove the heads to visually see the hole? I had a crack and bad rings on #3 but the truck would still start and run decent, btw.
Well I trust this mechanic more than the dealership, they told me it was an ICP sensor then after replacing it they said it was the Hpop, so i took the truck to this mech.
What he did was perform a compression test and found there was a dead cylinder, then he removed the valve cover, pulled the glow plug and ran a scope in the cylinder.
No matter what any mechanic says I will do the labor, I was A diesel mechanic in the navy for 13 years, No Im not a powerstroke Mech, butI have rebuilt many smaller and Larger diesel engines. Im just not sure what caused the hole in #2 could it have been a failed injector and the cylinder ran hot. I have looked at riffraffs engines and rebuild sets, just hard to say which way to go..
If you have the time I would go with the overhaul kit, its the cheapest thing for you to do, and when you tear it down you can "read the parts" your taking off to help you diagnois the real problem that caused the hole in the piston, my .02
I would have to agree with John2001, doing the teardown myself, i will be able to read the parts like a book, it will tell me the history. in that case I would go with clay's overhaul set up.. TIME IS all I have right now, been on dissability all this year some lady ran a rd light at 45+mph and hit me head on, I just got the truck back from the body shop a two weeks ago.. HEAY Do you think it could have caused this the truck was running supper, I wounder if something was damaged in the head on accident.. any thoughts
I was rear ended and it cracked the magnet in the ICP I believe. so its a possibility it jarred something and it caused this... do i hear insurance claim???
Try to file it threw your insurance before you start putting money into it, then if your insurance says no, Im sure there are plenty of brothers here who would love to help you out... I would Im in Michigan, next week Ill be going back to work for 1 week... in North Carolina!! My company cant find any local work.
John, sorry to hear that work is not so good, i know several people in your position. I just got the ok from my doctor to go back to work on light duty, been waiting for a long time hate being home all day. I plan on doing most of the work myself, I will have the truck towed home this week and plan on getting it torn down in the next week, I thank everybody who has helped me or even given there input. it sucks to have to tear down the engine. that didnt make it to 300k or so. But thats the way it goes..
