Ok on my 1973 Ford F100 It only has one belt(no power steering). I want to convert it to have two alternator belts.
My question is since I have no power steering I need to change over to have a 2 groove water pump pulley and a 2 grove crank pulley and 2 groove alt pulley correct?
All the trucks at the junkyard had the wrong pulleys. One had a 2 groove alt pulley, 1 groove pump pulley and I think 3 groove crank pulley(they had power steering but the crank pulley was not correct to run double alt belts. So this got me confused a little bit.
I did leave the junkyard with something though, I went ahead and got the 2 groove alt pulley.
So I don't have to have my belt set so tight to keep the 3G from burning the belt.
Right now I have the belt tight as a guitar string and I know the bearings in the alternator and water pump are going to go down if I don't relieve it.
On my 79,302, i use the groove that is the closest to the engine for the alt. I wrap the belt around the alt to the crank only, not around the water pump. I run the power steering in the next groove around the crank and the water pump. There is a couple of more grooves i don't use. The engine is not the original ,it's an 84 engine so it may have a car set up and not a truck. My alt. does have a double pulley on it but there's no place to run the other belt on the crank that lines up.
