Crossover Pipe, Up Pipe, Down Pipe

So guys the Banks Turbo came with the stock crossover pipe of 2.5 inches, a up pipe of the same i would assume because that was stock exhaust size. The down pipe goes to my 3" exhaust from when the engine was N/A. How big should I run for this turbo? its the early wastegated banks turbo. My buddy has 3.5" for his. But I dont know what all is what on that thing. What do you guys think? All the piping that came with the turbo is rotting away, lots of surface rust and flaking steel. NOT GOOD XD. so what do you guys think? can ya help me? guide me idk what to do. you guys pretty much tell me and my dad has it done or does it himself. Can I Make all my piping 3.5"? Or is that just impossible?

No reason to make the crossover or up pipes bigger. They are engineered to be a certain width so that the turbo has flow velocity so it can spool. If the pipes are to big, there won't be enough flow velocity to spin the impeller and boost high. Keep the crossover and up pipe the same, after the down pipe I would go 3.5 inches to the back. You can go 4 inches but you won't see any more power.

Ok. Well I still might need a new crossover pipe and up pipe because most everyhting is rotting away on this thing, its just holding together at the moment, i jumped the gun on this turbo kit...i might have ended up with a bit of a lemon turbo.

Then just have a exhaust shop redo the crossover the same size.

have them make it the same size pipe, shorter if theres any way they can do it. the faster that exhaust gets to your turbo, the faster it will spin. you could have them make a up bend in each side, then merge into one towards the top. have them put 1 flange on each side midways so you can easily install it. also spray it with ceramic spray coating and heat wrap it. that will give you a couple more lbs of boost.

So how much boost will I see from the turbo if i redo the crossover pipe and whatnot like you told me to do? Its hitting ~9.5 lbs of boost right now....I have not turned up the IP anymore then it was when it was N/A.

It depends where you set the waste gate.

9psi is what banks sets their wastegates at. I have mine adjusted to release at 14psi. Just put the rod in a vise and turn the bottom peice to shorten the rod length. Do not turn the rod going into the top actuator head, doing so will rupture the rubber diaphram inside the head.
