Month ago put 5gals of gas in my truck...gave me bout 8 gallons. 10 miles later she bogged down on me n' idled for bout 30seconds and quit. Replaced fuel filter and sending unit in tank last summer. Turn the key on n' u can hear the pump in the tank whirr for bout 4-5 seconds. Figured probably got some bad gas. Took the fuel filter off and sure nuff it was loaded with water. Course hadn't changed it in a couple of years. Put a new filter on it and put 5 more gallons of gas with 2 bottles of STP GAS TREATMENT in it(Enough for over 40 gallons) She cranked up and ran perfect. A week later i went to town(30 miles round trip)ran smooth as glass. Then started ta town yesterday n' got bout half a mile down the road and she did the same thing again. Bogged down idled for a few seconds and quit. Turned the key on and pushed the schrader valve down on the fuel rail and it didn't even dribble...NO PRESSURE AT ALL. Pulled the supply line off the pressure regulator and dropped it down beside the engine...turned the key on and watched the line and got a light stream of gas for bout 5 seconds. Actually more like a dribble. Was more like gravity was pullin' it out instead of it being pumped...sure wasn't any 40lbs. With that high pressure pump on the frame shouldn't that fuel spurt out of the line under pressure in a steady stream? Gonna pull the codes on it after while just outta curiousity. Any ideas or suggestions would really be appreciated. '88 Bronco II w/ 2.9ltr. 5 speed

I wonder if you took in some crud with the water? If it clogs the filter, you could get the symptoms you describe.
Also, I once installed a filter that I now consider as "BAD". It clogged up just a few months after I replaced it. It would happen immediately after hitting a bump at highway speeds. The engine would buck and lose power until I slow down to an idle, and whatever clogged up fell off the main flow path.
Just pulled the codes awhile ago...got a 96. Says "Fuel Pump Circuit Open"-Battery to ECA (1988 On). What is an ECA? Pump relay maybe? Does anybody know if this things got a fuse for the fuel pump in the fuse panel and if so which one? Im stumped. Fuel Pumps not getting any fire i guess. Any ideas? HELP!!! 88 BroncoII w/ 2.9ltr.
The contact on fuel pump relay is fed by a fusible link. Does the relay click on for a couple seconds when you turn the key to the "ON" position? It's supposed to run the pump for a couple seconds to pressurize the fuel rail, and you should hear the pump running during that time. Find the relay and measure the voltage on the contact pins (not the coil); one of the pins should read 12v at all times. The other contact goes to the fuel pump through the inertia switch.
