Looking to put power steering on my 67 f100. need a bendix steering box to just pop right in but they are $350 bucks new, anyone have a place that might be cheaper or a quality used one for sale

Thats about the cheapest i've seen a Bendix for except for a junk yard or one someone is selling used. The last one I bought was around 450 and its still not leakin. Your best bet is checkin the classifides and ebay,or even a local junkyard you might get lucky.
That's why most folks do the swap with a Ford box. They are MUCH more plentiful and therefore cheap. You have to swap the steering column and the column collar and the left side motor mount perch to use the Ford box, but you save $$$. I got everything for my last swap from a donor truck for $100.
I'd love to do that conversion, and even have the parts, but has anybody ever seen a column that will work with the Ford gearbox but also has the 3-on-the-tree shifter? Aye, there's the rub...
But seriously, has anybody seen this configuration? I'd think that if you were going manual tranny in the late 60s, you probably weren't ordering power steering, so these columns either don't exist or are far and few between. Unfortunately.
I've been investigating the Bendix box with similar pricing to what everybody else is finding. My best hope for an affordable solution is to *try* to pass off the Ford box as a Bendix core and hope the guys at the auto parts store don't notice, but that's not really how I like to operate.
Have all the parts now but dont really want to change the motor mount. If anybody has a Bendix power steering box to trade or sell I have the complete ford power steering setup, short auto trans steering colum/ford steering boheavy sucker) in case anyone is interested. I just figured I dont need to have ps that bad, but if I can find a cheap driver side mount maybe i'll put it on
Changing out the motor mount perch is not that hard, you don't have to pull the engine or anything like that. I just put a board under my oil pan, took off the motor mount nut on the left side, and jacked up the motor. Then you take the mount off of the perch and there is plenty of room to take out the perch.
bigric, there are 3-speeds with ps, my auto mechanics teacher in high school had one. But they are rare. It might help you to know you can use the column from a 69-79 truck so at least there are 11 model years to search. But I understand your pickle, if it was mine I would probably be looking for the Bendix box, too.
Thanks jas. I knew the later year columns would fit since I had the Ford P/S unit in my '67, but I hadn't really considered that there would still be some 3-speed column setups from the mid-late 70s.
But onto another question in this line-since we all are aware that the Bendix box is pretty small compared to the Ford box, and that the Bendix box is barely larger than the manual gear, are there any durability or performance issues with the Bendix box? Or is it just as good as using the Ford box, save the availability of boxes and rebuild kits?
I presume the Ford box is heavier-duty and can take more abuse due to it's larger size (and therefore greater fluid capacity and bigger spool valve). However, if you baby your truck the way I do, it may not be an issue. For instance, when replacing the ps hoses on my truck, I blew off the cooler because the mounting bracket was broken. I don't think I am going to be overheating the ps fluid on this truck. If I do, I will add the cooler back in, but it is not likely given the easy life my Ranger is living now.
I have a 2000 SuperDuty for the heavy stuff. The Ranger is "semi-retired".
