Inertia Switch / Fuel Pump Help
i got a 2003 b2300 2.3L 2wd 5spd. with 91,000 miles.
had an intermittent no start condition for the last three days. it would fail after turning off the vehicle. the no start condition would happen up to an hour after turning it off.
i verified that the fuel pump relay and fuse are good.
i have good fuel pressure (65psi).
i can power the fuel pump from the inertia switch connector and have 6+ volts at the connector.
THE INERTIA SWITCH CONNECTOR IS PARTIALLY MELTED.
my three questions are :
1) what would cause the connector to melt
2) what is the proper way to check the inertia switch..continuity or resistance? i get continuity and a resistance of 0.2 - 0.3 ohms.
3) could the fuel pump be binding up causing it to draw more power than usual and thus heating up the connector.
a few months ago i rear ended someone hard enough to bend my bumper donward but it did not set off the airbags or the inertia switch.
thanks for reading and all yoour responses.
Dan
you are absolutely right, i have definitely neglected the fuel filter for 91,000 miles and am now paying for it.
i am changing the connector and the inertia switch and i hope the pump last a while longer.
is there a flow test on the pump i can do?
thanks,
dan
