Sunday. Truck running rough and knocking. Stalls out about a mile from home. Get started and get back home. No oil on dipstick. Just added a couple quarts to top off about a week before.
Monday. Add 8 quarts of 15W-40 dino oil. About 1/2 way between add and full. Runs good.
Today (Saturday). Knocking a little after leaving work (few miles away). Get home. No oil on dipstick. Add 8 quarts to bring oil above add level.
All this time, oil pressure gauge never changed when running. Always in center. I know, dummy gauge, but no oil should move it, no?
No major blue smoke that I can tell when accelerating when engine warmed up.
Where is the oil going? No pools under truck. What would happen suddenly to burn 8 quarts in less than a week? Gasket? Injector? Turbo o-ring?
Not
Sure what the rr does on the obs but on the sd when the o rings go you have heavy oil consumption, lite blue smoke(sometimes), and the fuel filter is black from oil being shoved past the o rings into the fuel system. Try and get a sample of fuel out of your tank or fuel bowl! If it's black it's most likely o rings. Unless you just been running WMO in you fuel for the hell of it!
It only takes six pounds of oil pressure to move the stock gauge up. Eight quarts low the PCM should have shut down your engine, not enough oil to run the injectors.

Took the top of the fuel filter housing and the fuel was clear, no oil. Could it still be injector o-rings or something else. Oil was way down again today. Only had driven it about 15 miles or so.
Hum, seems like with that much oil it would be running out the tailpipe! Can you take a small sample of fuel out of both of your tanks? If it's not in your fuel and it's not on the ground, you must be burning it! I guess.
i dont see how the o-rings on the injectors could be letting 8 quarts by in 15 miles, mine are bad and i barley burn any oil, keep putting it off fixing mine getting new injectors in a week or two so i dont feel like replacing them now. like keith stone says may be a combination with the injectors and turbo. could possibly be leak down from somewhere else too
Just got the call from the mechanic. He says it's the dipstick plug. I've been dreading those words since I got the truck 4 years ago. Any way to take the pan down by just jacking the motor up? They are quoting me 2k to take the motor out, and this is my cousin's shop. 20 hours on the book. Sound right?
There is no way to drop the pan with the motor in place. But, you can replace the o-ring that seal the dipstick plug without droping the pan or pulling the motor. There is a link around here somewhere on how to do it, I'll see if I can find it. be right back....
