2001 E350 analog odometer
Speedometer is fine (knock wood), no problems there. From what I've read before, this year may have had a stepper motor driving the analog odometer, and are known to go out. Both odo and trip stop/start moving at the same time - they either both work, or both don't
I've spent "a while" searching tonight, but couldn't find the posts concerning this stepper motor, here or on powerstroke (I have a 7.3).
Coupla questions:
1) How much of a fight is it getting the dash apart to get at the instrument cluster ?
2) Can you readily changed the stepper motor that drives the odometer, or do you have to change the instruments out in larger modules ?
3) Since the speedometer has been working 100% (again, knock wood), do I need to do any further diagnostics on the odo ? I plan to get schematics anyway, but wanted to ask....
I was planning to get a Scan Guage II anyway, so that may work for me as an odo, but would prefer to fix this right as long as it isn't a nightmare dash design.
Rgds, Dave.
