I would like to swap compressor wheels on my truck, the one on it now is nicked up. I have a perfect used one I can swap, just wondering if it would cause a balance issue?
Thanks,
P.S. For those of you who know about it from my way too long ago previous post, I am finally getting my injectors installed and fixing my plenums.
I've always just swapped the wheel without getting the shaft assembly balanced. I believe most others here do the same. The wheel itself is balanced so I say screw it on there and go.
Just past hand tight.
Over tighten and you'll strip it out like I did with mine. =*(
I grab it by hand and crank it down, (carefull, its sharp) then snug it just past that with the wrench.
It will tighten itself further on its own if it needs more from air resistance.
Thanks for the pointers Talyn! I think I'll skip the bearings etc. for now cause they are in good shape, and I have to get it out of my shop ASAP, can't have paying customers waiting If I had the time, I could be doing stuff on my truck for two weeks straight.....
I hear yea there Ian.
You have to take the turbo out to swap it, 4 more bolts and you'd have the assembly apart and swap the bearings and seals quick.
Was just a thought. =)
Seals are what I see going bad before the bearings.
You'll need to put a wrench on the exhaust side also. If you have the EBPV in still, you'll have to take that sleeve off there to get to the bolt. It's easier to hold a wrench on there without a socket on it.
ive used that stuff and blew it with in a couple hundred miles. ford sells powerstroke silicone at like 15-18$ a tube. trust me, dont skimp on this. i did mine a second time because i thought i would be fine. that ford stuff is no joke!
