I have a thread started about piston rings spacing and order. Thread is titled piston ring spacing. I shore could use you help. sounds like you had a successful rebuild. Thanks.
dont use ring instalation tool on oil side rails just your fingers, first on the oil ring install the expander on bottom groove then install the lower side rail then the top rail, looking down at the piston space the gaps on lower half of the radius so lower side rail at 8 o'clock expander at 6 and upper at 4 o'clock, make sure after all 3 are in that the upper and lower side rails move easily then on the middel compression ring there is usually a stamped mark it goes up. put the gap at about 10 o'clock and the top ring at 2 o'clock, another littel trick I learned on installing the pistons put a short length on rubber fuel line on the connecting rod bolts to protect the cylinder walls I used a 1' piece of abs plastic pipe 2" diameter with end caps (not glued) just pushed on the pipe, and a rubber mallet after I started the pistons past the rings my wife drove them in while I guided the rod on to the crank. hope this will help Mudguts.
yeah the dimple goes up on the middel ring the top ring should also have a mark that goes up as well, if not I would check with the manufacturer of the rings
