My 04 is acting up again. Bud at OC Diesel has already replaced FICM, 1,3,5,7 injectors, ICP and a couple other parts that escape me right now.
On first start up it has been sluggish but after it gets to operating temps, it is good to go. On this last trip, I stopped for fuel and on restart, it would barely get out of its own way. We stopped for dinner, went back out and it ran "OK" the rest of the way to Glamis. Now today on the return trip, made it about 70 miles and it went extremely low on power and it felt like it was missing on at least 2 cylinders. Stopped for fuel and I thought what the heck, let me change the program. Went from TOW to Street on SCT III and it did better. 30 Miles later, same thing. I have nursed it as far as i can, but now I am stuck 100 miles from home and 70 miles from Bud at OC Diesel in Ontario California.
2 questions.
What do you think it might be?
Does anyone know of a reputable Diesel Shop in Ontario, Fontana, Inland empire area?
EGR has been deleted along with the cooler. I hope I can figure out a way to get it back to him without costing $$$$$. Last time it was $350 tow bill from LAX area to his shop.
EGT were fine. EOT I cant read. ECT was normal to a little high but still within range. I am pulling 15k trailer right now.
It is just as though it is not getting fuel. It has been sitting for an hour now. I bet it will start fine and run
Have you pulled your fuel filters to take a look? Checked to see if the fuel bowl is filling when you turn on the key? The closest guy I know of is Loren @ Diesel Tech, but that's in San Jacinto.
have seen a few with hpp volume issue. very hard to diag that concern. its more of a lucky guess.
also fuel pressure based issues can cause.
You know that is what it "feels" like. Just not getting enough fuel. I am not a mechanic (just play one in my garage) but with all the diesels I have been around on the farm or in Navy, it feels like there is no fuel or limited fuel at times. Two new sets of filters (both factory and air dog) i am sure it is not filters.
Is there anyway to monitor HPP volume? What about lift pump pressure?
im refering to the high side oil pump. sadly there is no volume test. you can look at icp and ipr with eot above 185. I would look for an elavated ipr%
the other could just be a fuel pump failing.
