Fuel pressure
Fuel pressure
2006 F350. I checked my fuel pressure and I saw 50 PSI. I've seen some people say it should be about 60 PSI. Also, it seemed like it took a couple of seconds for the fuel pressure to come up. Shouldn't the fuel pressure come up almost instantaneously? The reason I ask is because my truck is taking forever to crank now to start. Hot or cold. I just replaced the dummy plugs and standpipes due to a leak. I pressure tested the HPO system after replacing everything and no leaks. FICM also tested ok. Any other areas to look at for the long crank to start?
My experience is the same as Mark. My fuel pressure comes up quickly at start, almost instantaneously. Mine was idling at 52 psi and was dropping down to 45-46 psi at WOT on the stock tune. I installed the updated fuel pressure regulator spring and the pressure at idle came up to 62 psi and it would drop to 56 psi at WOT. Much, much better. If you're only seeing 50 psi at idle, you are definitely getting into the fuel pressure danger zone at WOT.
If you're fuel pressure is coming up slowly and you're only seeing 50 psi at idle, when was the last time you changed your fuel filters?

Thanks for the info. I found my hard start problem. It was air left in the HPO system from the repair work. I was surprised that air could still be in there after letting it run for a few minutes after putting the HPO rails back on the heads. I took the truck out for a 5 mile drive. Starts better now than it ever has in the year I've owned it. I'm going to see about updating that fuel pressure relief. Thanks for the link Dieselpop.

If you get a fuel pressure gauge and your pressure is low this is the fix.
Mine before i installed the fuel pressure gauge i had 50 lbs at idle and 44 at WOT and that is to low, installed the kit now 62 idle and 58 WOT, low fuel pressure will kill injectors and over 70 lbs may blow injector o-rings.
The Reg. Kit number is 3C3Z-9T517-AG and you get it form Ford
The spring is located behind the small plate that the return line attaches to. This is probably one of the easiest repairs you can make... Take the four screws loose (they are T-27 torx screws), change pull the old spring out of the brass cup, put the new spring in and re-install the plate. When you are taking it loose, keep your thumb on the plate so the spring/cup doesn't pop out and also use your thumb to hold the plate up tight to the fuel bowl when re-installing, so the screws can be threaded in good. If you buy the whole kit (which I think is the only way you can get it from Ford), I would replace the brass cup while you are at it..
You can see the plate and return line here.

The only hard part is the hose is in the way, you need to get a turkey baster a new one and suck out all the fuel from the upper filter houseing that way you don't have a mess. After you are done you have to cycle the key 3 time 30 sec. each time to prime the fuel system.
