quieter cab

Ive done the door seal mod but are there any resonable priced things to make the cab quieter? Dynamat would be pretty spendy considering I have an Excursion. Any other ideas on any other ways? Thanks

Ive seen a few people on here that have used a roofing material as a replacement Dynomat. I wouldnt think it would be as good but if you put a couple layers itd work much the same. Im sure some guys on here will have more to say about it.

Heres The link to a thread about the door seal mod and after page 2 it goes towards panel dampening

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...eal-mod-2.html

And heres a link the the material they talk about:

GAF Tri-Ply Torch App Granule Modified Bitumen Membrane Roll for Low Slope Roofs - 3688100 at The Home Depot

I'm actually about to do this mod, the doors and panels, my old man does roofs here in South Texas and has that material redily available and can smudge it in a job so itll be free. I'll post pics and whatnot up when I get it done.

Hope this helped.

Edit: One other thing I have heard of is people using the Bitumen over the faom they use when putting in carpeting. They cut the foam about 4"-5" short so the sticky side of the Bitumen Membrane can adhere to the metal and then just cover it up with the regular factory carpeting. (So if youve got a 40"x40" spot to cover they cut the foam 36"x36" and the Bitumen 40"x40")

What are trying to reduce.. tire road noise or engine noise.. ?
There are ways to reduce both without adding sound deadening mat'l to the cab..

By placing the mat on the metal it will reduce the vibration ability of the metal which will deaden the sound. Its like hitting a symbol with your hand on it compared to off. The vibration is what causes the sound. So if you can prevent it from vibrating, you're golden. So whether you're going for road noise or tire noise, they can both be helped with the mat. But like clintbonnie said, you can do quite a bit of front end work and that will help also.

Get undercoated, that should help and have a similar affect as putting dynamat or anything else inside the truck and save you from having to take everything out of it

Do you have agressive thread on your tires.. you might consider getting quieter tires.. My Michelins LTX's are super quiet .. don't heard any tire noise.
As far as the engine noise, after I did the HPX mod and started using 5% biodiesel, switched to Shell Rotella 5w40 syn oil, I can not hear my engine at freeway speeds..
