Thinking of replacing my '86 F250 with the new diesel F250. We want the Super Cab (dog) but I wonder about the added length for off-road? Thinking maybe with the 6 1/2 ft box 142 in wb might not be too bad? Any one have any thoughts on this?
I have the SC/SB 142" combo. The real problem with off road isn't the length, it's the 8,000# that the truck weighs. The entry and departure angles on the 4x4s are pretty good for a full size truck, breakover isn't all that great, but a small lift and >35" makes any mall curb craw-able Plus the truck is freaking wide, even worse with the mirrors.
Weight is the worst part, and the 2nd worst is sucking water into an $7500 engine upgrade.
Thanks for the info Brian. I remember going through some gulleys with my regular cab and coming close to both ends hanging up. I am guessing the 400 hp and 800 ft lbs torque should handle the weight? I think my 460 maybe 200 hp? As for room we need - dog - on front bench was a problem - on wifes lap in bucket seat won't go over so well - shes a big girl - the dog.
As mentioned thinking about buying a 2011 F250 - another question has anyone gone through the Costco vehicle buy program? Can you get a better deal else where? I am looking on the west coast - anywhere between WA and northern CA.

What is the wheel base on your old truck? Probably not much different than the SC/SB 2011 is it?
