I have a 78 f150 and my power steering pump has a small leak.. not bad.. just a couple of drops here and there. I saw in the LMC magazine that they sell a seal kit for the pump.. How hard is it to replace the seals? I am a novice at this stuff so shoot me straight guys.
If yours has the plastic reservoir, I would replace it.
Its not too hard to replace the seals but the Ford pump always wants to whine and seems to always leak. A better alternative is to replace it with a Saginaw pump. The cost is about $60 from Advance Auto parts, I think NAPA is about $90, Order a Saginaw 20-6244. It is a direct bolt on. The only hard part is swapping the pulleys. Rent a special puller. The Saginaw is silent and has quite a bit more power and the best part is no leaks.
