Hey guys, I recently put an aftermarket stereo in the truck. Its a 78 f150. I was listening to the radio and got kinda cold so I turned on the heater and POP POP the stereo won't turn on and neither will the heater. I ran new power wires when I put it in and the always hot wire fuse is good. I tapped into the winshield wiper power wire for switched 12 volt. And the windshiel wipers still work. So I switched the accessory fuse out and noticed the heater fuse is blown. Also only when the truck is running there is a small hum coming from the speakers.
Make sure you have an adequate ground, that will get rid of the interference you're hearing. Also you need to run the acc wire to something that doesn't take as much of load, all in all I would bet the ground is the issue. What kind of deck did you install? And is it new or old?
9/10 times with electrical problems the ground is the issue, make sure you have a good solid one and I think you will be ok.
As for your ACC wire run it to something a little less demanding of power, even if you have to run a relay but I have never had to. The acc wire doesn't take a ton of power but don't run it to anything that has moving parts as it will pick up different frequencies off of them. Also if you run power wires near speaker or expecialy RCA wire you will pick up those unwanted frequencies.
