Exclamation Engine Restore product.

After several year I have broke down and tried the Engine Restore product.

I think the stuff might actually work.

My engine is running a little bit quieter.

I have 345,000 miles on it.

Runs a little bit better.

now the question:

What the h?ll is in that stuff ?

Will long term use clogged oil lines or other stuff ?

Thanks.

I've used DURALUBE before, quieted the bearings in my 82 van that held no oil pressure at idle.

i've used restore in 4 motors. noticeable difference in 2, minimal in 1 and nothing from the 4th. i think it's well worth the 6 bucks(or so). never tried the slick 50, duralubes or the like. got a package of the "motor up" in an offroad raffle i was at. may try it in the f-350.
as to what's in it... maybe unobtanium. hehehe.

Put the Restore stuff in an '88 Ranger/2.9 I had. Made it run great for several hundred miles, then it was back to normal. Only tried it once though.

I haev used Engine Restore in all of my VWs(Yes, I know...totally different application), and I have been very impressed with it's results. Well worth the money, IMHO.

I have never used this stuff, so can't speak from experience, but my guess is this stuff is like radiator stop leak. Use it if you have a big problem or emergency and can't do the fix right. I have used other "restorative" type products in my youth but I never noticed any long term benefits, so I quit long ago. I keep good records on my cars so I can see if there is a change, and none of the snake oils ever caused a blip on my charts. But then my engines are almost always in good condition.

Restore and other engine repair type products essentially gum up the works which in many cases will temporarily fix a problem with oil consumption or low compression. It probably doesn't do a great deal of harm to an engine that really needs it since it was probably on it's last legs anyway. So if a bandaid will get you a few thousand more miles before doing it right, I guess it is OK. Sawdust in the differential is also a good quick fix, but I wouldn't do it to any diff of mine.

It would be interesting to do a before and after compression check and oil consumption comparison. The followup checks would be the most interesting to see if these products have long term benefits.

On an engine in good condition, almost all car makers and knowledgable mechanics and oil companies will tell you nothing other than good clean oil is required in the crankcase. I will stick with the research of multi billion dollar companies over a $10(?) can of snake oil, at least with engines in decent shape.

Just my opinion.

never noticed any problems with the use of restore.
only 2 products i use are restore(about 6 cans in 4 motors over the years) and marvel mystery oil. i know you can run transmission fluid through the carb to get rid of carbon but i like the marvel.

trans fluid was always alot more fun. pull over at the u-turn where we cruised on a friday night pop the hood, off the breather, rev it to about 2500 and run a steady stream thru. could'nt see **** for about 1/8 mile in either direction.
