AOD Question
Im looking at swapping in an AOD to replace my C4 to get OD, but i have a couple questions about the swap. I have a mild 302 in my 63, what torque converter should i get, and what (if any) years will work with the factory speedo in the truck?

First: If you are shopping for an AOD, limit your shopping to '88-'93 boxes. Early units are trouble. More later, gotta go to work.

I was also heavily advised to find an 88-93 AOD for the 302 that went into my 54 tudor. I ended up with a freshly rebuilt 93 model AOD out of a Mustang.
If memory serves, after 93, you're getting into the EAODs, which are certainly usable, but require some electronics.
On my application, with an Edelbrock 1405 carb, all the AOD required was the simple kickdown cable that Lokar offers.
FWIW....I was also advised by a guy who's done several of these 302/AOD conversions into old Fords, with 3.90 or higher gears, to install a TransG0 Hi-Rev kit

You have to pull the valve body and access the governor, but it's not terribly difficult.
Basically, what this kit does is improve the shift points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear.

the housing on the AOD will have to be custom or the sleeve on the speedo cable?

The Speedo cable and ends for the slick are not the same as for the AOD modern speedo connection. You will need to have a custom cable made with and AOD end and a old type screw on end.
Any speedometer shop can make these up for you.
