i got a 89 f150 with a 300 6cyl and it lost oil pressure i checked the oil in it and it was overfull and i was wonderin if it would be the oil pump or possibly the gauges or something just tryin to find out where to start
thanks
Have you put a real oil pressure gauge on it to verify that the engine did indeed lose oil pressure? The factory gauge is nothing more than a glorified idiot light...anything over 7 psi and the "sending unit" (in reality, it's just a switch) provides a ground to the gauge.
The first thing I'd do is correct the oil level. Then with the key turned to "ON", ground the wire that goes to the oil pressure sending unit. The gauge should show "good" oil pressure with the wire grounded, and no oil pressure when the wire is not grounded. If the gauge checks out, you can either replace the stock sending unit with a new one or install a real oil pressure gauge.
All this is moot if the engine started rattling/knocking when the gauge showed the loss of oil pressure. If that's the case, it's time to pull the engine.
the engine is runnin fine aint knockin rattlin or nothing it sounds as good as it did the day i bought it thats why i was wonderin where to start on it
