There is a 2001 limited for sale at a dealer in central Indiana. V10 and fairly loaded. They want just under 16k. What do you think a realistic price would be? Oh yeah, it has about 60k on it.
I just bought a 2000 Limited with 103k miles in excellent condition, loaded for $9300. Had some extras plus DVD player, new tires, wheels and springs. Found many in the 9k to 12k price range.
I would also take a closer look at it. That is pretty low miles for ten year old truck and you will still have one of the lower mileage Ex's five years from now depending on how much you drive it. There seems to be quite a price difference in trucks that have over 100,000 on them vs lower mileage. It depends on how important low miles are to you.
Thanks for all of the input. I am going to drive it tonight. I hope they are willing to deal based on the age and the fact the I would have to put $4 gas into a v10.
I'm not sure where you are in Indiana, but there are a ton of X's for sale on Craigslist in Indiana for a lot less money. Granted, that is low miles for an X, but the price is way high.
Here are all the X's for sale in Indiana on Craigslist.
Hey just bought mine two weeks ago and just dealt with this whole price issue. So let me chime in here.....
Just paid $19,700 for a 2004 Limited V10 4x2 with only 66,109 miles on it. It was immaculate and I felt this was a fair price.
It sounds like this vehicle you are mentioning has WAY LOW miles for being ten years old. Definitely check it out, but like Big Pig Daddy said it may be a tad over priced. Use the '$4 a gallon' argument to get them down a bit.
Granted it's worth paying a LITTLE extra for a nice rig that's been loved and maintained, but just make sure it's not a LOT extra.
No hard and fast rules on pricing, and I don't have any rust issues here in SoCal, but maybe get it down around $14k. Seems to me that's more in line with what I am hearing from others across the country for that same year/trim pkg.
That fella "Ikarus" in Florida just scored what looks like a gorgeous 2001 Eddie Bauer with a 7.3 diesel for $23k out the door (so 1. that's including tax and such and 2. it is a DIESEL which will tack on extra price.)
Also, in Florida there's probably not the rust issue you have in Indiana.
So...what does it all mean? Drive it and see what you think. If YOU think it's worth $16k then pay it. That's what I did with mine.
Then again, that dealer is probably WANTING to get rid of it with $4 gas right now. See what you can negotiate!
Ya only go around once Slime, 16K or less for a vehicle that will easily do another 100K miles and consistently get 10 mpg city; 12 mpg hwy. Plus you inherit a bunch of guys/gals online in the same boat as you who are enjoying the hell out of their excurisons - + free pnline advice and some real clowns too. Or... buy the Prius and feel like 'Joe vs. the volcano'. Just my 2c.
That's how it was for me. I got there and it was so clean and low miles that I kept asking myself "why would I keep looking when I could have this one?". That's when you know it's the one. Plus, they worked with you!
Congrats on the X purchase. I have had mine a month today and love it! It does suck down the gas, but I fully expected that. So far I have towed three times with it and it has handled the 8K loads very well. Mine was out of Texas so its completely clean of any rust, but that is a large factor in my purchasing it. The vehicle I traded was a 97 F150 out of Cali. The beach wasnt so nice to it as the frame and everything underneath had surface rust all over it.
I haven't figured out how to put pictures directly in the thread yet.
2001 Limited V10 w/60k, I think it has almost every option except the DVD. There are probably some others that I don't know about.
They wanted 15,900. I ended up getting it for 11,200 total cash out plus my wife's 2002 Oldsmobile minivan which had 130k on it. I think it was a pretty reasonable deal, but time will tell I guess.
