1999 F250 2WD Lug Nut Torque

1999 2WD F250 with original alloy wheels. I am rotating my tires and want to torque the lugs. The owners manual says 100 ft lbs for 1/2"lugs (pg. 168) which I have. From what I have read that seems low. Most recommend 150 to 165? I do tow about 10k and would like to get it right.

Ok, I went out and used a caliper on the lugs. They measure 0.543 inches, which is bigger than half inch so will that make the lugs 9/16th? If so the torque value per the manual would be 140 ft l bs ??

My book says
Bolt size 1/2-20 N*M 135 Ft-Lb 100

Bolt size 9/16-18 N*M 190 140 Ft Lbs

I have a early 11/98 1999 production if that makes a difference

1/2 =.500
9/16 would be .562.

So if you measured them with calipers and they are bigger than 1/2" in the range of 14mm or 9/16. I would go with 140 and not look back. My guess would be you still have 14m, I'm thinking from what you measured.

My manual is like Dan's (150-165 ft/lbs).
The manual also says to add one drop of motor oil between the flat washer and nut. This helps achieve more accurate torque readings.

Without pulling mine off and checking , i guess it could be 9/16 and my manual is wrong. But never the less the torque is in the same ball park. Can't find a source that shows it is indeed metric other than my manual.
