Ok... So a friend of mine is considering trading me his 03 SD 7.3 for my 96 OBS 7.3
What I would like to know is the pro's con's of each? I know being that his is an 03 it has the PMR's. But what would be some of the advantages/disadvantages of having an 03 vs my 96?
One particular question I had was any advantage/disadvantage to having a wastegate turbo? Whether I keep my truck or get his SD I still plan on getting stage 1 single shot sticks.
Unfortunately, were a little bit bias over here as to obs/sd. In the end, it is really a personal preference. The SD's come factory with a 17ºHPOP vs the 15ºHPOP in the OBS, Electric fuel system in the SD vs mechanical OBS. Turbo differences, as mentioned above. The factory sticks dump more fuel, they come with a factory installed IC, the factory springs ride a bit smoother when unloaded and is more forgiving.
Those are just a few that jump right out at me. I have some thoughts on the wastegate vs non, however I'll wait for someone with more knowledge to jump on and give you some info on that
All that being said, I wouldn't trade my OBS for an SD... All mentioned above can be upgraded/updated on an OBS truck to make it perform and ride better than an SD. Plus how cool do OBS trucks look?
if someone is considering trading a newer truck for an older one, that should ring a bell! our trucks are better! easier to work on , easier to upgrade, and better piston rods.

I agree for the most part. Here is the story... He is a good friend of the family and was also the previous owner of the truck. His wife loved the truck and she said she wouldn't mind having that truck back. me being only 22 the thought a of a SD got me excited... but I don't want the excitement make me regret something later.... haha
Its not for certain but a decent possibility that they would wanna trade.

I've had a OBS PSD since I was 17... 24 now and I would never 'upgrade' to an SD... if you can call it that..
Stick around here for a while, you'll learn everything you could want to about these trucks
