16 Mpg!
Drove to work yesterday in fog driving approx 50-60 mph and after driving 128 miles filled up -8 gals *16 mpg.The key to good mileage is to baby these V10's. Is this comparable with what the rest of you are getting?
The key was:
I flipped the bike and got body slammed on the ground at around 40MPH. Dislocated my right shoulder and had to put the auto in gear with my left hand. Babied the truck (and me!) on the way home and got more than 16MPG.
So, either dislocate your shoulder, or drive VERY conservatively!

I am getting 12.5 on overhead driving between work/home which is combination of interstate and city traffic.
j/k Yes, I still have my SD its just parked, it does stay much cleaner now and with the $ saved on gas I just may put 37" on now
Yes, it is all downhill...........upstate NY, is not at sea level, and you are!!!.and you probably also had a tail wind and were slip streaming behind a semi going 55mph, and your tire pressures were pumped to 80psi......................

Most of the biggest hills I had to climb were coming BACK from Upstate NY. Go figure...

I know you think those were hills, but they are optical illusions, very similar to those mirages people see in the desert. Us up-staters hear this all the time from you down-staters!!...........trust us , why do you think they call us "upstate" and your neck of the woods "downstate"?? It is because you are down from upstate NY and it is all downhill from here!! To get from here to you we must travel "down" the NY State Thruway.
Now, if you were in the state of Maine, and you inquired about this. the Mainer would reply " you can't get there from here"

Do you really think that makes a difference? I don't.
By the way, it's called "Upstate" because you head North to get to it. Not the elevation. That's why we say "going DOWN to Florida". Florida is around the same elevation as Long Island - SWAMP (or at least a sand bar)

I'm in Lindenhurst. Born in Farmingdale, grew up in Mastic, moved closer to work.
I knew you were busting
but I'm sure someone else was also thinking "downhill all the way". I started to compute how much gravity actually helped but decided it was superfluous...ak

I've had my '89 NX650 for 12 years now, I'm 37. Before that, as a teen, I had a few dirtbikes and an XL600 that got stolen. Wanted a new one, and got the NX back in '91. After flipping it, got back on it as soon as possible...
Early morning after Labor Day, I got into a situation on wet grass where the Pirelli DOT knobbies didn't hold and it started to fishtail wildly, started to go down. Going towards the trees I made the decision to lock the front wheel and flip it, launching me straight down the path. My shoulder is still painful but weightlifting helps
What did I do in the first week after I dislocated my shoulder? Got the bike off the trailer and fixed the handlebars, right mirror, foot peg and brake handle.More importantly, that's why I got 16MPG on the way home. Hitting the gas hurt too much...

There just seems to be a real difference between vehicles for some unknown reason. Some here suggest it is the way you drive. I don't buy that because my mileage only varies 1 -2 mpg whether around town in stop and go or on a road trip out west with cruise control set at 80 mph.
The only thing that has ever changed my mpg down significantly is when a tank of gas has a lot of towing and off road in pasture type of driving.
The biggest effect I have seen on my trucks milage is putting on the winter studded snow tires. This creates an immediate and constant 2mpg drop from the summer tires.
I get 10 -11 mpg in winter and 11.5 - 13 in summer. I have had a few tanks when on travelling long, flat, empty highways for hundreds of miles and cruise set at 80 mph where I have had 14+ mpg. This was with a very loaded bed and with 5 people, but not towing. My truck, at least, has always had it's best mileage at 75 - 80 mph with cruise on.
