I'm also going to undertake a similar swap , "soon" , , there are several articles in FTEF ,maybe some in H A M B , as well ,,,, note that 48/52 is a bit narowwer than the 53/56 , but again , some mention is made of the differences , do you have the No Limit engineering D V D ? , it's a good help ,,,,, for templates , i was able to get a set from John Niolon , he has done quite a few , and has a number of threads , might try him , and i got a set from , either Bob's ,, or Bobco , , hope this helps , and i hope you will let everybody know how you made out , any tips/tricks/cautions etc , we can all learn fron what others do ,,,,, good luck ,,,, Jim Prowse ..

I not sure anyone makes templates specifically for the 48-52 trucks. Here's a picture of the pieces of frame I cut out of my 49 when I notched it for the Volare. I kept them in one piece so that I could use them as a pattern if I decide to do another truck. Of course, this is only a starting place. After these notches you still have a bit of trimming to do. Maybe this picture will help...

I read the entire thing and I am ready to read it again.
Its an awesome write up.
So Sam, you are saying to use mt old frame to get the measurements to center it and use your pattern to do the rest.????

hm.. you are right, that extra narrow will change the specifics of the cut.

what is the frame width difference?

Heres how I cut mine. The cut is level with the frame, centerline is 1" forward. I don't know that a template is really all that helpful on the F-1.

volare install

I don't have useable templates ,,, but as i found , you really don't need them .. if you'v read , and re-read the John Niolin info , it really helps .

I do have the NO LIMITS tech-talk DVD , that i'd gladly loan you ,,,

My install was on a "bare-frame 48 F1" ,,,,

Do , as is suggested by many ,, move the Volare 1 inch , to better centre it up ,,,, i went 1.5 inches , wish i hadn't ,,,,

do consider "offsetting" whatever powertrain to the right an inch or two ,,makes life a whole lot easier on the left side ,

good luck , you won't be sorry you did the swap ,,,,, jim prowse ..
