Im thinking about buying a 2004 F150, extended cab, 4x4. Has the 4.6L V8. It has 158,000 miles on it. The dealer is asking $9500. It is in really good condition. Has a navigation system, power everything, big chrome brush guard. Is it worth it to buy it? How much longer do you think it will run? What does everyone think? I just sold my '95 F250 and have about $9000 to spend on a F150.
Well,Its kinda up to what you want.Miles arent really that bad,but knowing a "past history" would help you make the decision.I traded my old 97 XL with 186,000 miles on the clock, and it never once let me down.I now have an 07 XL,and plan for it to be the last truck I ever buy.
I do suggest however that you demand a carfax from the dealer. If there is no prior major damage, they should be happy to oblige.
If however they say no,walk away.
I think you should visit a Ford dealership and look at their used models. You might fing one a lot less used up for about that kind of money, maybe finance a few thousand with the equity you have that should be no problem. I traded in an 04 6 months ago with only 31K on the clock for about that. I think you could find a better deal. Remember everything on the truck has that many miles of use, so a lot of electrical devices may soon be on the way out. Lots of toys, whistles and bells are worth very little once they get so old.
Homer has a good point about the toys. The cardinal rule of engineering is the more parts you have the more likely something will break. If you can afford to fix these things then don't worry about it. If you are extremely strapped for cash these options may come back to bite you.
