ICP problems?
So here's my story, maybe someone can help educate me.
Before I continue, 01 F250, CC, auto, 37,000.
Service engine light came on last week, stayed on for about 5 minutes and went off. Noticed a slight change in the engine racket that was temporary. Went by the dealer and had it scanned. Came up with a 1211 fault, which is the ICP. Ran some test and all seemed well. Put on about 700 miles over the weekend with no fanfare.
Driving along last night and the engine made a funny noise again, and the service engine light came on, and then went out again promptly. Its at the dealer this morning. I am about positive its the ICP again.
So what could be happening? If I understand correctly, the ICP regulates the pressure in the high pressure oil rails, which fires the injectors. OK, so if the pressure got too low (or too high?), I imagine it would store an error code. Could the pump for the oil rails be the problem? What else could be wrong?
Just looking for some knowledge for when I go back to the dealer.
Thanks for any help.

Good luck.

Did a little more research.
1211 fault is something with the ICP, or IPR. If set (the fault) during normal engine operation (it was), it indicates the ICP is operating in open loop mode and the ICP is above or below the desired pressure.
It could also record that fault if the IPR valve failed, is stuck or shortened to ground.
Cheers,
Shawn
When your check engine light came on your computer went into open loop ("limp home mode") which is why the tone of the engine changed.
As always, you put it into words for the layman. Acid test for that...I understand what you describe! Now we see what the dealer has to say.
Thanks again,

Mechanic said it was fixed, they replaced the ICP. Mr. Plitt gave me my keys and the work order and I was gone. Hopefully that was the problem.
I must comment about my dealer. Maybe it because they are such a small outfit, but they are so personable and accomodating. Where else is el jefe gonna call the mechanic at home for you? Mechanic was prolly pissed though!
Thanks for the help,
Shawn
