CB and Antenna Install
I have not been around CB's for around 23 years, I was interested in whats current.
As for Pickup-Truck Antenna, it was pretty unanimous - Wilson 1000 Roof Top mount mounted dead center on the roof. I wouldn't let them poke a hole in my roof!
They all said dual's are defeating unless you put them fore an aft, they need to be at least 8 feet apart in a perfect world more in a less perfect world ... They both need to be on the same ground plane, so a trailer top is the only likely spot, duals also take more power so are defeating in low wattage installations, the typical installation. I did get different numbers ranging from 500 watts to 5000 watts for duals minimum wattage.
Radios were very different, they all had their likes and dislikes. Midland's and Cobra's were popular across the board, especially the old original Cobra 23's ... Of course none of them liked any of the new stuff, to weak!
CB Coax needs to be 18 feet long period! Do not coil the excess, run it in a fashion you do not have to coil it or snake it back and forth under the carpet.
I want duals for visual reasons, so, I wound up with two 48" Firestix's mounted on the front rail of the bed as far out as possible and the left one is a dummy ... This is not an ideal setup, I don't need an ideal setup, it works just fine for my purposes. The problem with a setup like that is the ground plane is basically a pie shape from the rear corner of the cab, meaning I'll get best signal front and left, rear and right suffer.
I temp mounted an old A-R-A 23 channel underdash, it's real old, like before power laws ...

Now that I'm home I will be mounting my Uniden PC-77 overhead and it's components under dash.
SWR's are very important, if they are to high they can burn out your radio, most shops charge $10-$20 to set the SWR's, many truck stops have CB junkies hanging out making a buck doing tuneups and repairs, they are typically very good else the truckers will run them off.
-Enjoy
