what happens if...

you put to long of a push rod in your motor when rebuilding?

lots and lots of bent pushrods, probably bent valves...what kinda motor?

1985 302 has a comp cam part #31-218-2 .456 lift and 268 duration I got on comp cams site and they have a cam quest program that you plug all your motor info into and it will tell you what you need. anyways it said pushrods should be 6.881. I have 7.100. I have a pushrod checker and me and my nephew (who put the motor together) checked it and came up with the 7.100 but I do not know how to do that correctly and I'm not convinced that he does either. Pics of motor in my garage.
