I just bought an original 76 f250 highboy, on the bottom of the dash, just above the transfer case shift lever, there is a small rectangular light ( I assume its a light), can anyone tell me what this is? Is it just a dome light or what? right now it is inop, but i just was curious what it was for, I will post a pic shortly.
I could be wrong but, I dont remember them having a transfer case lock light. I know my 77 and my 78 dont..............Not sure what it may be. Pics would help a bunch......

There was an option for underdash lights on the 77 and later trucks. There were two lights, one mounted under the glove box, one to the right of the steering column. Maybe someone took one from a later model and wired it in above your shifter. It should come on with the dome light if wired correctly. The light I'm referring to is mounted below the dash, at the bottom facing down, not IN the dash.
Full time 4WD's have an indicator light (Ford p/n D4TZ-10C915-B) to show when the transfer case is locked. Also, it's a blue light.
I'll be dipped................didn't know that..........guess that shows how uncommon the full time 4wd's were around my part of the country. I've literally been in 100's of 4x4 Dents, either never noticed the light or something......... Anyone got a pic?

They were somewhat uncommon everywhere i think, at least among f250's (highboys) i know the very few full-time (np203) highboys i've come across are always paired with an automatic tranny and a t-case strut.
Yeah around here there werent even very many auto 4x4's back in the day. Most of em were farm or ranch trucks...............and an automatic transmission in a pickup??????? Why the hell would I want that.............LOL
Got a source for this part I'd install it just..... because..... I could make it work with the 205 shifter, it aint worth it. I'd have it come on with the dashlights mayby.

I don't see why you couldn't, i know some chevys and dodges with np205's have dash or floor mounted 4x4 shift indicator lights, i believe the switch is used in place of the np205's poppet plug, just a thought.

I have no clue where that poppet is located on mine. If you have any more info, I'll find a 205 with that switch.
