If you are going to order tunes you are better off buying the handheld unit from the tuner as well. You typically will get a better deal doing it that way than buying the unit and then buying tunes as well.

Well Gearheads knocks 50 if u buy tunes off that brings the xcal tuner to $375 plus shipping
so technically it isn't a better deal that $ 337 and free shipping is cheap

perhaps it changed.....when I was talking to Matt he quoted me the tuner with his three tune package for 490.00 and that was last month....so I agree to disagree with you. 337.00 no tax and free ship + 100.00 for tunes is still cheaper than 490.00 that he quoted me last month. Just sayin.....this is the email:

$490 shipped to the 48 US states

I was confirming what you stated
Gearheads is $425 tuner only plus shipping then they will knok $50 off the custom tunes
so it makes the tuner $375 but you still need tunes price varies on package and then shipping charges

What is the difference between the SF3 and the X3? IIRC my X3 was $425 with tunes but that wasn't from Matt.

Only difference between the SF3 and X3 is that the SF3 comes with three canned tunes and can hold 3 custom tunes. The X3 will only hold 3 custom tunes. Other than that, they are identical as far as I know. Never understood why the SF3 is cheaper than the
X3.

It depends on the seller/tuner. $425 including custom tunes is a good price, if the custom tunes are good. You'll pay a certain price for the tuner and then it's up to the seller if he is going to include custom tunes for X or Y price additional or for no additional cost.

Fellas,
I have also been using Matt's SRL+ & SRL tunes. These are by far the best I've tried yet. I agree with what everyone has said.

However, the only issue that I am having is with fuel economy. I am seeing a significant drop in mpg. I am getting about 3.5-4 mpg less with the SRL tunes than I am with IND's race tune. I spoke with Matt about it (excellent customer service by the way) and he thinks it may be from too much boost...we are currently trying to work it out.

Has anyone else noticed a drop in mpg? What are yalls boost levels at cruising speed/no load. I see around 8-10 PSi, this is higher when compared to IND's race tune. As I mentioned matt's tunes blow all others out of the water, just if i could get that mpg back up where IND has it...i will be one happy boy.

Thanks, any thloughts?

That is funny because I got a 1-2mpg jump with his SRL tune.
I have to get some updated tunes for the Powermax.

jayybird,
when i started running matts tunes and once i relearned the truck, i got a raise in mpg about 3 mpg. this is hand calc and also filling tank to the rim at fill up. at crusing around 50mph or so with no load in running 2-5psi boost. i dont know if that is normal or not but i think it is.
also you are very very correct, (excellent customer service by the way). i had some issues when i got mine... when i loaded into the truck the truck would not crank. no starter, no wait to start light or nothing. i emailed him and he found out after some investigating there sct was having issues with the program that matt uses to build the tune. once he got it fixed he emailed me the new one and i have been in love with my truck ever sence.

After going through 2 tanks of fuel since installing the SRL tune, I'm also seeing a 2 mpg gain with daily driving. I don't have a heavy foot but I'm still having fun! More power and better fuel mileage. What a deal!

Slightly off topic with a random SCT question. I'm in the middle of a BulletProof job on my '04 and am thinking about replacing my Predator with a SF3 since I hear so much good about them. I have 37" tires and see that the SF3 will allow for tire size changes. Do you do that separately from Matt's tunes or does it have to be custom-programmed into the tune file itself? Just wondering if there is a separate function for that.

Thanks...

I'm not sure if it's part of the basic package with the tuner or of it has to be added in the tune files. I know that Matt's tune files come with the "adjustments" turned on.

FYI--the most accurate way is to measure one rotation of your individual tire on the ground and hand calculate rotations per mile. Since they come in increments of 5 on the tuner I always pick the higher rotation figure to allow for tire wear. Seems to me that the hand calc'd figure is always different from what the tire manufacturers list on their websites.
