While towing today I encountered my WTC to be @188 and my EOT @210 THis is right after I climmbed mtn on the decent down. Does this seem normal? I have an 06' psd 6.0 and I was towing a 5k boat.
Thanks for the info. Yes it is WCT, my keyboard just wasnt cooperating. Got a new computer and the wireless keyboard is just not working for me.....
I just want to make sure that a small stint of gap between the 2 is OK, as I did search and learned that up to 15 degrees is OK, but that amount of spread seemed scary.
just use the term ECT ( engine coolant temperature ) in place of WCT it is a more common abbreviation for coolant temp and a Ford PID name so searches will be easier
I personally think your ect is low , maybe thermo is getting a little old. Making a climb with 5000 your ects i think should have been 200 to maybe 205, i would try new thermo then keep close watch. JMHO

Also, the ECT/EOT spread of 15 degrees max is based on steady state operation with at least 190 degree ECT. If you looked at the spread after an uphill pull while starting your descent, I wouldn't consider it a good data point. Keep in mind that once you let off the throttle, ECT cools down faster that EOT so the spread widens a little.

Normal.
I see the same. Your ECT will drop a lot faster than your EOT. And 188* on the decent is quite all right.
I bet you saw your ECT at least 197*-198* or a little higher on the pull up the hill. Of course depending on the length of the pull.
Check the ECT vs. EOT empty and not towing for the spread.

what did you monitor temps with?
Scan Gauge II. Thanks just searched for WCT more DOES come up! Thanks for the recommendation.
just monitor at normal driving and check the spread mine was hitting 15* spread regularly
so by the time I got done taking it back to the dealer 3 times in a row I had a new oil cooler and head gaskets

Thanks, will do this first and see where it goes. Should I buy a Motorcraft TSTAT or is a Stant OK? I see they are both Stainless steel.

I have had this happen in the last 2 months through highway driving with no load. What do I tell them when I go? Will they be able to see the history of temps? I do track it regularly with my SG II. (great purchase thanks to FTE!)
When you go in to the dealer, print out this TSB and discuss the issue with them, then take them for a drive. They might want to reflash your truck to have the ECT vs. EOT meet the threshold.
