check engine , engine miss

Any suggestion never ever had a check engine light come on I guess today is my day , it came on today and an engine miss too I changed fuel and air filter restarted and still the same, I know I need a scanner but in the mean time is there anything I can do to possibly correct the problem? Could a CPS be the problem?

It would all be shooting from the hip... Get the code and that will give us a MUCH better idea on where to go from there.

Don't just go buy any code reader like you get from the auto parts store.. Most of them won't tell you anything on these trucks. You honestly need something like Auto Enginuity or the scan gauge or take it to a shop that has a red brick snap on or another GOOD scanner to scan it for you.

Most likely a burned under cover harness .

Try unplugging the injectors one plug at a time . The one that makes the least difference in the way it runs should be the culprit .. Does the CEL come on right away ,or after a few seconds ?

You can unplug the injectors ,
2 at a time from the outside of the valve cover ...

Going out to the truck brainstormed all night no sleep , I think Action4478 pointed in the right direction,,,,,,, problem occurred right after start up and as I checked the engine with key on motor off I heard the glow plug relay buzzing for a loong time , I gave that no thought but after much thought it seems possible the the relay stuck (I had that happen with a relay before) and in turn it melted a UVC harness ,,, I have two spare gaskets and harnesses so today off with the valve covers......

Action4478 ,Action4478 ,Action4478 , you tha man , Res on the way

I did replace the driver side valve cover gasket and harnesses and nothing changed wha wha wha over to the pass side as soon as the cover came off out came that nasty smell of burnt plastic strange enough I was happy to smell that cause I knew then where the problem was , the rear harness connector was melted and obviously that the trouble only problem left now is how to repair the harness on the harness side (both connectors melted) and also what caused this problem.......
