I just picked up some headers made for 73-79 trucks (came out of a 79 half ton) that I am installing on my 76 F150 with 460. They are a Mexican-made variety, no brand name I can see, just says 'Mexico' on them with part number.
Should I see any mounting problems, such as having to raise the engine?
Also, I will need gaskets. What is recommended? The flanges are about 1/4 inch thick, and look pretty hearty...
I think I will also get new bolts... Is there a particular bolt I should be buying? I think they will be a little shorter than stock cast-iron manifold bolts, right? Any help appreciated! maybe I should just stop at MOPAC?
Every brand of header fits a little different and installs a little different than another. With that said, it'd be tough to say what problems you may encounter. In researching the issue for my own truck I've seen several different stories about this header or that header. Some fit without problem, others require some "coaxing".
As far as your headers, with them being made in Mexico I'd GUESS that they are Headman or Hookers. I could be way off though.
To bolt up the headers it really helps to have header specific bolts. The bolt heads are smaller to clear the primary tubes. Personally, I really like Stage8's locking header bolts. Torque em, lock em, and forget em. Combined with Earl's header gaskets, you will never have to worry about exhaust leaks at the header flange. I've been using this setup on one particular engine for 2 years and have had zero issues and have never retorqued the bolts.
Thanks for that! You are probably right about them being Hedman headers...
What type of gasket is that you are using? I saw a few different types at the store today, including a Mr. Gasket copper gasket...
I will check the performance store tomorrow for the bolts.

The gaskets I'm using are Earl's Pressure Master gaskets. They have an aluminum body with replaceable inserts around the exhaust ports. If I remember right, I paid about $40 for them at Summit which is where I bought the bolts as well.
Well, so much for that... The header bolt pattern won't fit my D3 heads!
My cast iron manifolds use a straight-across bolt pattern, and these headers use a staggered pattern (one up, one down)
Are these for D0VE C heads, or what??? Came off a '79 truck, but the motor wasn't in it...

Dang, guys! LOL I think I just bought myself a set of 351M/400 or Cleveland headers! HAHAHAHAHA
But, that's ok, the price was very right, and I do happen to have a '78 truck with 351M and dual exhaust...
I am still researching to find out for sure what these are made for... I have the part numbers on them to look up...
MY BAD!

Just a note, on my 77 2wd 460, I did have to lower my brake proportioning valve a little to clear my Dynomax headers. No big deal though. I have used the MR. Gasket standard header gaskets on them since I installed them last year and I have never had a problem with leaks. The trick is to retorque the header bolts 3 or 4 times hot and cold. By then everything has settled into place and stays put.
