I bought an MSD mini starter for my 77 F150 for clearance from my headers, and now I'm having trouble wiring it. The wiring diagram doesn't offer a "how to" on cars that have an existing starter solenoid like most older model Fords. I tried many different ways to wire, but all have failed please help me out since I posted up a thread already and No One has yet posted a response.
so does ur new starter have solienoid on it ? if it does u will need to run a batt cable to the big post on the new starter (needs to run from batt side of ur old solenoid )then run a nother wire from the starter side of the old solenoid to the start post of ur new starter then it works like a mag switch on a big rig u will need atleast an 8 guage wire from start side of ur old solenoid to the start side of ur new on this should work
Thanks shookshaddy for replying, yeah the new starter has a solenoid on it already. I did what you mentioned to do before I posted which to me is what would have made sense for it to work, the only difference is I used 12G for the starter switch cable and It didn't work. Thats why I posted this up cause I've been breaking my head for the past few days trying to figure it out. Will switching to 10G really make the difference or am I missing something else?
its worth a try ive seen this on just about every big rig i work on there starters are set up like what i told u to try they have solenoids on the starter and one on the firewall of the trk (im a diesel mech)& we build mud trks also i do all my wiring its all trial n error lol hope u get it this time man
awesome! thanks again shookdaddy I will try it out once more, Im going to hit up Kragen to get some 10g cable and since I'm going to go might as well test out the starter (even though its brand new) just to make sure.
