I think it's crap. These cars are no more unsafe than a lifted truck with 38's. The cities are ticked off that people are buying old cars, painting them and slapping a set of rims and tires on them and avoiding new car taxes.

I think that this one may be a bit more of a hazard than your 38s

I wonder the safety as far as the angles and stress on the car. I have never been around one up close to see, but would the ball joints and control arm have enough travel? I also see many with 3 inch or more spacers bolted to the hubs to mount the rims. It seems like added stress to the studs for the lugs.

But I do think they have a valid point. They should be after the lowered and lifted cars and trucks to see that they are modded correctly. As far as I know though, there is no standard for such conversions. If there were, none of us could afford to make our autos our own.

I don't see how this works since many cars and trucks are coming from the factory now with 20"+ rims...

Sounds like BS to me.

Yes this is ridiculous. In my opinion, any wheel / tire combo that WILL NOT fit under the factory chassis settings, be it a car or truck should be outlawed for public road use.

The fact that these guys with the donks are being singled out is BS.

I would like to see a well documented and proven reason why they are more dangerous than a lifted truck.

Scour the SD forum and read the numerous posts about component failures such as hubs, brakes, axles, drive shafts, transmissions, bearings, etc and most issues will be linked back a modified truck.

That says it all! Show the open minded people actual evidence that these modifications will certainly cause the failures that the police woman mentions.

If these types of regulations were to spread throughout the country, no modified vehicle would be safe. They could go after anyone going from 15 to 16-inch wheels!

Sounds like a witch hunt!

I don't see a point in having bigger or smaller wheels/tires on vehicles.

Stock Jeeps in the 1940s/1950s created a lot of the 4x4 trail networks that are still in use today.

What size tires do you think were on cars that were setting speed records since racing began? Stock size!!!

I'm not going to argue with you sir, I think four-sixty-power made his point.

The article was pretty clear to stereotype black folks as saying that the donks are common within the African American community. Personally I think it's a witch hunt as well and if I were a person who was affected by this law, I would be mad as hell and feel like I was being singled out.

I'm more ticked off about all the young me that walk around with their pants half way down their butt with some designer boxers showing.

The point is, this is petty and pointless.

Personally, I can't stand those big "donks", coffee can mufflers, big wings on the back. But these are car guys like the rest of us. I've had my 72 Lemans for only a few weeks and already heard from a couple of people that I'm wasting my time and money on an old piece of crap. I have to give these guys respect for what they do with their cars. Its wrong for the authorities to single them out and I hope someone in charge can bring some common sense into this mess. One question though. Don't these cars get state inspections? I would think any issues would be brought up then.

Selective enforcement is not new. I agree this does seem to illegaly target African- Americans but bikers have been dealing with it as well (selective enforcement) Georgia and New York operate random "motorcycle only" checkpoints which obviously is selective enforcement and harrassment. Read about it here: Motorcycle only checkpoints outrages national lawmakers | Clutch and Chrome

and here: AMA News > Riders asked to oppose Georgia motorcycle-only checkpoints
