Walked out to the truck this morning and it will not start. No solenoid click. Swaped batteries with a known good one and still the same. Pulled out the remote start switch and hooked one side to the 'S' and the other to the battery and the solenoid clicked and the starter ran.
So it must be the wiring from the key to the solenoid or the key switch itself.
Is there anything I should check that is specific to these trucks for this issue?
I'm thinking of just putting in a starter button, wiring one side up to the ACC (maybe radio) and running the other wire to the 'S' on the solenoid.
I have a '76 F150 extended cab short bed with a 390 AT. I think it has dealer installed AC.
I would begin by checking the neutral safety switch which is located above the steering column under the dash. I think this is the only point of interruption between the ignition switch and the starter selinoid. The neutreal safety switch could be bad, have a loose connection, or be misaligned. Was the shift level in paerk or neutral? Try starting the truck while moving the shift lever up and down.
I would not bypass this switch because then the truck will start in any gear.
