For me, the K&N was a huge improvement compared to the stock oil-bath air cleaner on the ol' 65.
It definetly makes a big difference in the go-pedal! With the X-Treme air top, I can actually hear the air sucking thru the filter riding in the cab. It's just as addicting as a turbo whistle
At the time, I didn't know squat about engines/cars/trucks...I just liked the HP increase sticker
With the knowledge I've gained now, I may end up putting a K&N in my stock IDI air cleaner housing and run dual ram air intakes from the grille, one on eachs ide of the radiator.
At some point here, I'll be doing the intake tubes with the stock filter anyways...but since the filter is dirty and may need to be replaced in a few months, I may upgrade to a K&N since this truck sees 95% of its time on pavement in a non-dusty environment.
For a vehicle that sees a lot of dust, I'd keep the disposable paper filter.
For a vehicle that sees a lot of time on road, I'd run a K&N and just it clean and oiled up.
while you guys are on the topic of air filters sort of... how often would you recommend replacing the air filter?
also. that little fuel screw is the same concept for the 7.3 right?
It depends on what filter you get, K&Ns are lifetime, all you do is clean it when it's dirty and reoil it. Just get a air filter recharge kit from your local auto parts store and follow directions. I'm pretty sure other filter should be replaced every 30K.(?)
Yes the torque screw is the same but it only came on 92.5-94.5 IDIs. However, when you need a new IP, you can replace it with a 92.5-94.5 pump.
well my truck is a 91 and i just went out and looked.. there is a little orange cap over something in the exact same location of the torque screw in that video.. is this something diferent?
Yes, I wouldn't touch that one, if you have a torque screw you will see two plastic caps at the back of your IP and the torque screw is the one closer to the top, I'm not sure what the other one does.
ok i didnt wanna mess with it anyways just wanted to check it out. and I have a banks air filter. i guess it came with the turbo? how often should these be changed/cleaned?
The banks filter is lifetime, and its a K&N filter that is just labelled Banks. Just get a K&N recharge kit from your local auto store, don't cheap out and get a store brand, its not compatible with the banks filter. Basically it has a spray that loosens the dirt, then you rinse it out and oil it.
This is my cold air setup .... I got the idea from "Wreck" and I have had it installed since early january and have never had any issues... Its all 4in Duct work all avaliable at O-Riley or your local parts store. Except the 5 to 4 inch Hub on the Plentum
What I want to do is find a shop that bends 4inch pipe and have them bend me up a prefect fitting dual intake. I think it would work and look awesome. I would route one to the pass side battery and the other to the right side of the rad. and paint it black. I don't think it would look bad, but who bends 4 inch pipe?
You could try using 4" ABS 90's and 22's and some 45's or to get some bends and things try heating up the 4 in ABS with a Torch and make it soft and try and Bend...... I do things like that for 1in schedule 80 for sprinkler lines at times with no issue.... But 4in is a diff story I have tons of it at work and ill see if I can get it to bend tommorw mornin just for the hell of it just to say been there done that ... LoL
