I want to add an a/c to my 81 F100, it never had one only heat...do all 80-86 F-series trucks and broco a/c units the same? IE compressors,hoses,dryer...
There are some differences between trucks with aftermarket A/C and trucks that came from the factory with A/C. The major difference I have seen is the placement of the heater core. I have a 1986 with dealer added A/C. Here's an old picture I took under the hood:
They just ran the hoses through an existing hole in the firewall. I really don't know much about air conditioning, but maybe you could take one of these dealer-added A/C units off a donor truck. The under-hood part looks simple enough; I don't know how much work would be involved in the cab. Here's what the control looks like:
I did this on my 81 F100 some years back. I put a whole factory system in from an 86 including every nut bolt and bracket including the entire dash with the vents and everything else. While I was pulling things I also addes power brakes and power steering since I had a chance of getting all that. It is all still working great to this day.
