Foil Delete question............

Hey everyone,

While I have the turbo out waiting for the rebuild kit and new pedestal I am cleaning off 200K miles of grime and dirt out of the engine bay of my Excursion. While I have the IC Tubes out I'm gonna pull the foil off the drivers side tube and clean them both up.

I had done the foil delete on my F-250 about 4 or 5 years ago and I recall the process being very time consuming. When I did the mod in the past I pulled the foil off by hand then I used a wire wheel on the end of my drill to remove the glue and remaining fibers.

I have the foil off the IC tube now, but I still have to remove the glue and remaining fibers. My question is: Is there a better way to remove the adhesive than 2 hours with a wire wheel on the end of a drill?

I used the aerosol aircraft paint stripper and a plastic putty knife. Came off with no scratching or gouging. Then, sprayed down with brakekleen.

I sprayed mine with WD40 and let it sit for a few minutes. A grinder with a wire wheel made pretty quick work of it after that.

I just used some paint stripper and a plastic putty knife and it only took a few minutes. Then wiped it down with acetone, scrubbed it up with a scotchbrite pad then another acetone wipedown and hung them from a tree outside for a rattlecan paintjob

I used a propane torch and burned the insulation off, that also "cooked" the glue which allowed me to use a hard plastic scraper to remove the residue, anything left over was removed with lacquer thinner. All in all it took about an hour for it to be removed from foil removal to cleaned up ready for paint.

I did the same as wood, maybe carpenters think alike. Dont hit it with the torch too
long though. I just used course steel wool and kept using finer steel wool till it
polished up nice
