lift up front of truck, stick a pry bar or rod under front tire, pull it upwards and if there is any play its most likely a lower ball joint. press on the top of the tire inward, and if it goes thats the upper ball joint.
also you will probably here a popping of clunking noise when driving, but that could also be other things
I'm not getting any popping or clunking noises. My front tires (both) are cupping extremely badly though. Got a major snow storm going on right now so it may be a couple days before I can raise the truck and do the ball joint test.
check your shocks. I had cupping on my tires and the stock shocks were shot at 30,000 miles. I replaced the shocks and shortly after replaced the tires. The cupping did not reappear on the new tires
My shocks are brand new. The stabilizer was blown out though. Could that cause bad cupping? The guy at the tire store said that too soft of shocks can cause cupping. My shocks are Pro Comp ES9000.
I'm thinking the stabilizer was the problem. Just waiting for some dry weather so I can do a good inspection. Supposed to get 20 inches of snow tonight.
