Bad Starter or ???????

i have a 2000 model f250 that likes to start slow. ive tested both batteries and they test good and i also have cleaned all the connections on both batteries. but the first time i try to start it after it sets a little while it will barely turn over, i can get off the starter and right back on and it will spin faster but still not as fast as i think it should be. i think its a starter but dont want to waste my time and money.
thanks
Joe Don

Sounds like a starter that is tired. Replacing it may be the only option if you have checked the other stuff. Just do yourself a favor and get a good quality one! I have seen too many buy "lifetime" starters and alternators to only replace them over and over. You may spend a little more, but it will be worth it.

The brushes on these Mitsubishi starters are unusually hard, and seem to last longer than most starter motors.

The high-current electrical contacts in the drive solenoid that's attached to the top of the motor are not so long-lived, however, and are what tends to go away first. That solenoid is available separately as a repair part, and might be the first place to start looking.

If you can put the truck down for a day or so, find a good-quality rebuilder to go through yours rather than exchange it for someone else's previous problems. There have been two other threads in the last two days in this forum on this very subject if you wish to find and read them.

my starter finally quit on me tuesday and i had it rebuilt yesterday, he had to replace the drive, armature, bearings, and solenoid. basically a total rebuild but he said i got pretty good life out of it at 11 years and 130,000. When i first got my truck over a year ago one of the batteries wasnt making connection, I dont know how long it was like that but it apparently did some damage because my truck hasnt started like this since i owned it. thanks for all of yalls help
