I took my 09 f350 in for a few things, mostly regular maintenance, and I forgot to return my computer to the stock setting. I have the edge cs with dpf delete. Had my step father follow me in my truck while I dropped off my shop truck, when I got to my shop, about 15 mins from the dealership, he told me the check engine light was on. I also noticed the programmer was not turning on.
On my way back to ford my truck entered regen mode..... Was a little scary seeing the blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust. Anyways, they told me to take it to the custom shop where I had the programmer installed.
They tried to ref lash it there and that's where I realized I didn't return it to stock.
The interesting thing is, when the programmer is installed in the truck the screen doesn't work, the guy at the custom shop thinks the programmer might be wrecked. I am going back there tomorrow morning and he is going to have edge ref lash it with the latest update and I'm hoping that my programmer works and everything is balcony to normal...
Has anyone had this happen to them? Any info would be nice.
This would be my guess, since you didn't reset it back to stock when you plug it into the truck now it doesn't recognize the truck anymore, the same thing that keeps you from tuning multiple trucks at the same time with the same tuner. Most likely Edge will need to reset the tuner to the same settings as a new one so it can load your new stock setting (after the reflash at the dealer) before it can tune it again. Most tuner companies charge for this, it is not just an update, it is a complete reset so it is like new again.
Good luck...unfortunately you're gonna need it. Right now the only tuners that are compatible with the new reflash update are H&S and Spartan. SCT is working on theirs as we speak but Edge?...you're gonna need to reach out to them to find out for sure, but until they get a work around for the reflash, your tuner's no good.
FWIW, you should NEVER bring your truck in for dealer service without returning it to stock, but since Ford is reflashing whether you want to or not, it's not like you have a choice. There are guys that have taped over their OBD, said "DO NOT REFLASH", told their service writer, etc. and still got their trucks reflashed and rendered their tuners at least temporarily useless, but that's because Ford is obligated to do it...
Lots of history and baggage but the consensus is that they're trying to avoid 6.0 type issues as far as reliability is concerned...
Couple of SCT tuned guys on "the other sites" made the same mistake and are doing one of two things; (1) letting their trucks sit until SCT gets it figured out or (2) reinstalling the DPF, etc. and going back to stock. Neither of those options is really desirable, but there's not much else you can do. Running the new flash with a DPF is NOT an option!
The latest Edge update for the last month is compatible with the latest flash from Ford. I already checked and I know someone who has had their truck flashed and he has no problems.
