how much does a BUILT motor cost
got a question i about to buy a truck (86 or older) with a 460.
i want to build the motor up once a get a student loan or 2 and was looking for a rough guestamet before i went talking to machine shops just to if there not going to try and jack me around and rip me off.
i guess my goal was about 600-650 hp but need it on pump gas (so nothing over what like 9:1 compression) high idle for the top end horsepower isnt to mutch of a worry as long as it dont want to idle at like 3 grand or somthing wild.just the standar 60 over 4.5in stroke and new heads i was looking at parts and it totaled almost 3k withough shiping thats forged crank forged rods all that good strong stuff.
what do you think something like that would cost when its all said and done i will give them the block out of the truck and reuse whatever probably nothing lol.

I think your looking at 600hp your looking at about $6000 if you can find the short block cheap enough.
If you cut your goals down to 450-475hp you can get by with about $3000 if you can scrounge up the bolt on's used, but your torque will likely be just over 500lbft.
This opens up Dove-C heads or D3VE heads for you motor. Both are capable enough to get you into serious trouble.
If you were in my area I have the motor for you to start.
