Dumping EFI wont take care of the blinking lights problem when you switch tanks. Somewhere you have a damaged wire, bad connection or a bad ground. ANY 5.0, 5.8, or 4.9 will bolt up to your tranny, it is just a matter of finding the correct flywheel for you application. If you really want to have the hassle of carburation, the way to go is buy a dual plane manifold, and edelbrock carb. Once you do this, you have to buy a pressure regulator and regulate your pressure to about 4 PSI. Hope this helps

Get a Haynes manual and look at the wiring diagrams in the back - the ones for carburetors are MUCH harder to read than the EFI ones, and they'll help you see how simple it is. They'll also show you which wires to trace to the tank selector valve and identify your short. When the tank problem is fixed, you'll find the EFI runs better under all conditions than a carb ever could, and parts are getting cheaper & easier to find every day. Soon, it'll be cheaper to build an EFI beater than a carbed one!

Dumping the EFI would be a big mistake. Don't be scared of EFI, it isn't as bad as a carburetor-trained gearhead might think.
