I am at wits end with trying to figure out what is wrong with my 1996 Ford F-150. I was driving about a week ago and some guy at a stop light told me I was leaking coolant pretty bad underneath my passenger side. I went home and found out where it was leaking from. There is a small, black, hard plastic line coming from my cab and going to the engine compartment (about 3/8" to half inch in diameter). The length from the cab to where it stops is about 2 inches. The coolant was gushing out of there and I thought I have a huge problem on my hands. I did some research and still have come up with nothing. My heat works fine in the cab so I am assuming it is a return line from the heater core going to the radiator. The problem is is that there is no broken or disconnected hoses anywhere underneath the hood, which makes me wonder how (if) there is a hose connecting the two ends together, why would it come off both ends at the same time? If anyone out there knows what this is or can help me out in any way I would greatly appreciate it. I have pictures of exactly where it is leaking that I can email to anyone. Thanks again in advance.
It sounds like your heater core is leaking. The line under the truck is the drain for the AC/heater box. Fortunately the heater core replacement is a very easy job on these trucks. Last one only took me an hour.
