Wonky clunk- front right wheel
A week ago I noticed a slight clunk from the front right wheel of my '76 F100 4WD. Within a mile or so it became quite severe. This happened with each rotation, near as I could tell once each revolution.
I had a buddy listen while I drove past him slowly and he located it to the hub. I towed it home and jacked it up. Right off the bat I could tell that the spindle was wobbly. I broke down the hub and found that the inner locking nut had lost the pin that keeps the lock washer in place between the locking nuts. Sweet! I thought. $60 for a kit- relatively easy fix.
I put it back together today, everything felt snug and smooth. Checked the ball joints (less than a year old) and they were fine to boot. I took off down the road, went about 50 yards and the thunk was back with a vengeance. Thunkthunkthunkthunkthunk

It's too dark now to do any work on it but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what else it could be. The axle u-joint seemed tight and snug, bearings seemed fine (and are less than a year old).
Any ideas?
