Had a blowout

What a weekend Was on my way with the family down to the TX coast for a dolphin boat ride and to check out the USS Lexington. On the way driving down HWY 181 rear passenger tire went boom Looks like as soon as it hit the street the whole rim just split. Got her pulled over Used the little Factory jack got the tire off and I see slowly truck starts to lean forward I say Oh no and bamm she falls. So now I have no way of getting that jack under the truck. Then a man and woman on a motorcycle pull up behind us Ask if they could help. Told them what happened They said they Could go home and get a jack would be back in 1 HR I thanked them . then 10 min later A car pulls up Looks like the guy on the bike called his friend to help us 5 min later the couple on the bike are back. so there we are Had some wood in the truck We stacked as a jack stand in case the truck fell again Finally we were able to get the spare on But looks like truck is leaking brake fluid hose must have got banged up by the wheel 15 miles from a auto store . I try And pay them for there troubles but they say no Ty asked me just to pay it forward and help someone in need to. so I make it to orileys and they don't carry the brake hose so I pick up brake fluid and top off Looks like the leak stopped . Stop at 2 tire shops in the small town no luck with rim or tire. make it down to the coast try 6 tire shops no luck no one has what I'm looking for. spend the night at the coast sun we drive back with no spare we make it home what a weekend now time for new wheels and tires not sure why we had the blowout tires looked good never had a wheel crack open like that before wonder if its because the weight of the truck.
1 carry a real jack
2 Help some one in need if ya can you never know when you may need the help.
3 Keep a eye on your tires blowouts are not fun.
Be safE Y'all

Dang man glad you are ok and that no one was hurt. You were lucky that you saw the truck start to fall and wasn't under the dang thing. I have never seen a wheel split like that even from an accident.

God bless, glad you're all alright. Lucky it wasn't a front. I hope you still replace that brake line. Don't fool around if it was leaking once it will again or worst!

Wow, another one that never seen a split like that in a rim, glad nobody was hurt. Replace that brake line and check anything around it for damage.

Glad you are safe and able to get the truck rolling again.

Just curious what are the last 4 digits on the tire serial number? It should be the week and year of manufacture of the tire.

I dont see any reason why it would blow out. Tread looked good and age wasnt and issue. Did you hit a huge pothole or have them over inflated?

What kind of wheels are (were) those? Seeing that is the part that would scare me the most.

Glad to hear there were some friendly folks around to lend you a hand. That always makes a bad situation a whole lot better.

Maybe i am wrong, but i would venture to say that the way that wheel is spread open is the cause of the tire failure. It looks as though it cracked and the air psi blew it apart.

X4 on never seeing a rim split like that. Glad that everyone is o.k. I carry a set of wheel chocks in my tool box just in case. I think I would have had problems with my pucker factor If I had to drive home without a spare.
