Depends on your usage. If you're frequently towing heavy you're supposed to use 5w40 or 15w40 oil, as it's pretty thick stuff and will protect your engine well in warm weather. If you don't tow heavy that often find a good CJ-4 10w30 oil such as Rotella T5.
10w30 is thinner when up to temp and will result in less pumping losses which will give you slightly higher MPGs.
Just bot two cases of Motorcraft 10w30 today at the dealer for $1.25 a quart cheaper than the local NAPA store. Also bot oil and air filters. Normal everyday price. Huh, I was surprised. Service Mgr saw me at parts dept and helped carry case of oil.
Is it worth it to get a synthetic blend over conventional oil. Because I don't want to pay for full synthetic. And could I go back to using convetional oil after using a synthetic blend?

Some synthetic blends such as Rotella T5 have slightly better cold-start performance, but otherwise they perform very similar to any good 10w30 CJ-4 oil.
You can use synthetic or conventional oil any time you like, the engine doesn't care about switching from one to the other. The idea that switching causes leaks is a myth.

I have been in the mechanic business for 8 years and was always taught that you cannot go back to conventional oil from synthetic oil. I have seen the damage caused by going back to conventional. Is it true that you can switch back to conventional with no damage to your engine?

Answer:
Synthetic oils will provide better protection than conventional oils, but switching back and forth between full synthetic and conventional oil will not damage the engine. Of course, this depends on the current engine condition and the quality of the conventional oil being used.
I have an old Contour with 94,000 miles on it that has seen conventional oil most of it's life and full synthetic for the last 12,000 miles. I would switch back to conventional without worry, it would cause no problems.
I use Amsoil 5w-40 it's expensive but I believe it's the best with very long drain intervals. If you become a member you get a discount on their stuff. I also just did my first oil change at 5000 miles and after I noticed that the shifting of gears smoothed out , but I did not change the transmission fluid?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
